Andreas Reckwitz is Professor of General Sociology and Cultural Sociology at Humboldt University. He has been honoured with numerous awards, including the Leibniz Prize of the German Research Foundation. His books on the theory of modernity and late modernity have been translated into over 20 languages. Most important publications: “The Invention of Creativity” (2012), “The Society of Singularities” (2017), “The End of Illusions” (2019), “Verlust” (2024).

Modern societies are orientated towards progress. However, experiences of loss fundamentally disappoint the positive future expectations of these societies. To what extent do experiences of loss now occur on a massive scale in the late modern age? What legitimisation problems arise as a result and how can society deal with them?
