Dr Jens Weidmann

President of the Deutsche Bundesbank, Frankfurt

Short Bio

Jens Weidmann was born in 1968 in Solingen, Germany. He has been President of the Deutsche Bundesbank since May 2011. After studying economics in Marseille and Bonn, Weidmann earned his doctorate at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Bonn. He then worked for two years at the International Monetary Fund in Washington before becoming Secretary General of the German Council of Economic Experts. In 2003, he moved to the Deutsche Bundesbank as Head of the Department of Monetary Policy and Monetary Analysis. From 2006 to 2011, Jens Weidmann was Head of the Economic and Financial Policy Department in the Federal Chancellery.
