Both Switzerland and the EU are interested in regulated, smooth relations. Therefore both sides attach importance to finding solutions, in particular to stabilise and further develop economic and scientific cooperation. The present Switzerland-EU package takes this into account.

Alexandre Fasel, born in 1961, took up his post as State Secretary in the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs on September 1, 2023. From June 2021, he served as Switzerland's Special Representative for Science Diplomacy. As Ambassador to the United Kingdom from fall 2017, he was involved in the implementation of the Federal Council's Mind the Gap strategy on Brexit.
In his career, he has focused in particular on European integration, the interface between foreign and domestic policy, foreign policy analysis and policy creation as well as multilateral diplomacy, the latter namely as Head of the United Nations and Other International Organizations Division in the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs and as Permanent Representative of Switzerland to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva.
