Live from the Studio
Paul Bulcke has worked for Nestlé for more than 40 years; he has been its Chairman since 2017. The world’s largest food company can celebrate great successes, but it is also permanently exposed. The company, which operates in nearly 90 countries worldwide and employs more than 270,000 people, is not only a major employer, but also a significant food supplier for numerous people, and has been for decades. For several years, the company has been committed to the principle of Creating Shared Value; and at this year’s Annual General Meeting, it submitted the multi-billion dollar Climate Action Plan to its shareholders for a vote. What makes an international company successful? What responsibilities does it have? Why is the Group subject to constant attacks – is there a recipe for countering them? And what is the president’s position on politics? Katja Gentinetta will discuss these questions with Paul Bulcke.
Born in Belgium and a graduate in commercial engineering, Paul Bulcke joined the Nestlé Group in 1979. He soon served as sales manager in Peru, Ecuador and Chile, and later as market manager in Portugal, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Germany. Before being appointed CEO in 2008, he was responsible for the entire Americas. Bulcke is also Vice Chairman of the French luxury group L'Oréal, a member of the Board of Directors of Roche and is involved, among other things, as Co-Chair of the World Bank's Water Resources Group 2030. Paul Bulcke has also been holding a Swiss passport since 2018.
