Russia is waging a brutal war of aggression against Ukraine, a conflagration threatens in the Middle East. Authoritarian powers are allying themselves against the West. The choice of direction in America (also) determines Europe's security. And in our country, extremists are jeopardising democracy and our liberal, open societies. Our future seems more jeopardised than it has been for decades. What needs to be done?
