Professor Dan Diner

German-Israeli historian

Short Bio

Dan Diner, born in 1946, teaches modern history at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. The internationally renowned historian was director of the Simon Dubnow Institute for Jewish History and Culture at the University of Leipzig from 1999 to 2014 and is a member of the Saxon Academy of Sciences. Dan Diner chairs the Alfred Landecker Foundation. In his work, the author thematically links strands of European history with those of the Middle East and Jewish history with a universal historical intent. His nonfiction book "The Other War. Jewish Palestine and WWII - 1935-1942" was nominated for the Leipzig Book Fair Prize (category: non-fiction/essay writing).
