Rahel Jaeggi, born in 1967, has been a professor of practical philosophy at the Humboldt University of Berlin since 2009, specialising in the philosophy of law and social philosophy. She is a representative of contemporary critical theory, and pursues such concepts as alienation, commodification and objectification, ideology, forms of life, institution, and solidarity.

In her new book, Rahel Jaeggi analyses the conceptual pair of progress and regression in order to chronicle and critique our time. She develops the term ‘progress’ to meet the needs of the diverse challenges of the present and to enforce the values of emancipation.
