Professor Marlene Amstad

Short Bio

Professor Marlene Amstad has been Chairman of the Board of Directors of FINMA since 2021, where she has been a member for six years. With a PhD in economics, she is a professor at the University of Bern and a senior fellow at Harvard University specializing in international finance and quantitative economics. Previously, she was a professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen and co-director of the FinTech Center there, as well as an advisor to Asian central banks at the Bank for International Settlements in Hong Kong. She also headed investment strategy and financial market analysis as Deputy Director of the Swiss National Bank, and worked at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, Credit Suisse, and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology's Economic Research Center in Zurich.
