Day after day, hospitals and medical practices produce extensive quantities of data that, until now, for the most part went unused. Linking up all this information promises better, more efficient, customised care for patients. To make this possible, a reorientation is needed in healthcare. Even if this system change represents huge challenges for healthcare, we simply have to seize this window of opportunity.

Christoph Franz, born in 1960, has been the chairman of the board of directors at Roche since 2014; he has sat on the board since 2011. The industrial engineer has also managed Swiss Airlines and Lufthansa over the course of his career. After studying industrial engineering, he gained his doctorate in economics and social sciences, and for several years now he has taught at the University of St. Gallen, since 2017 as an honorary professor in business administration.
