For more than 17 years the National Security Desk journalist at the Washington Post has been researching the world of jihad. What goes on behind the front line of the ‘holy war’? What goes through the heads of warlords and young attackers? How are people recruited? Investigative talent and courage paired with extraordinary connections to the world’s most wanted jihadis provide unique insights through research into the no-go areas of terrorism, such as the unmasking of the notorious ISIS executor Jihadi John.
Souad Mekhennet, born in 1978, is a correspondent for the National Security Desk at the Washington Post and has reported on terrorism for the The New YorkTimes, The International Herald Tribune and NPR (editor’s note: a loose association of private radio broadcasters in the USA). She is the co-author of "The Eternal Nazi, Die Kinder des Dschihad" (‘The Children of Jihad’) as well as "Islam" and "I Was Told to Come Alone". In 2012 she was a Nieman Foundation fellow at Harvard University, and she is currently a visiting lecturer at the Weatherhead Center for International Policy in Harvard, at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studiesand at the Geneva Center for Security Policy.
