The corona pandemic is a deep cut for economy and society. It is primarily a threat to health. However, its global economic impact is serious and will in all likelihood surpass the effects of the economic and financial crisis of 2008/09. The corona crisis is far from over, will continue to accompany us for some time to come and raises many important questions. The issues range from the long-term effects of the pandemic on the economy and society, the welfare state and climate change, crisis management in Europe, the right economic policy measures in different phases of the crisis, to the reconciliation of health and economic policy concerns.
Clemens Fuest, born 1968, is President of the ifo Institute – Leibniz Institute for Economic Research at the University of Munich. His areas of research are economic and financial policy, international taxation, tax policy and European integration. He is a member of the Scientific Advisory Council of the Federal Ministry of Finance, the Market Economy Foundation (Kronberger Kreis) and the Family Business Foundation.
